The steel shall be produced by either open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace melting process.
The longitudinal butt joint of welded pipe shall be welded on its thickness to ensure the structural design strength of the pipe section. Specimens should be subjected to tensile and flattening tests.

The outside diameter cannot vary more than +/- 0.75% for sizes larger than 5cm OD and the wall thickness cannot be more than 10% less than specified.
